George Catlin's painting of Chief Osceola is regarded by many as a classic expression of courage and dignity. (Smithsonian Institution- National Museum of American Art) Chief Osceola and his Seminole Indians lived in many parts of what is now Pinellas County.

Boom era promotional brochures touted Indian Rocks Beach as a paradise for fisherman. The number of fishing piers in the area, including Florida's longest pier(pictured here) backed this claim. The model in the foreground is Bette Zubrod, whose family tree includes the Stanleys, early owners of the Indian Rocks Inn.
